Open Position: Product Specialist

We seek a Product Specialist, preferably with experience in the building automation or HVAC industries, to join our Downers Grove, IL team. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package including vacation and paid holidays, 401 (k), and health, dental, life, disability insurance. This position is fulltime, onsite.

As Product Specialist, you will provide technical support for company products or services and promote company products at conferences, tradeshows and during visits to distributors, partners, and customers.

Essential Roles:

  1. Provide both hardware and software technical support of company products.
  2. Inform company about product performance and acceptance by customers.
  3. Create application notes, manuals, and other product documentation.
  4. Create promotional and training material on the company products for sales staff and customers.
  5. Author papers, press releases, articles and speak at conferences.
  6. Monitor product's revenue performance and competitive positioning.
  7. Create requirement specifications for product enhancements on new or existing products.
  8. Administer any product recalls, firmware upgrades, or product rollouts.
  9. Support technical relationships with partners.
  10. Provide product training for customers, headquarters, and subsidiary staff.
  11. Evaluate special customer requests for product applicability.
  12. Provide verification to specifications for both company and third-party products.
  13. Conduct market research and competitive analysis to ascertain market threats and opportunities.
  14. Must be able to travel on company business with overnight stays.

You will report to the Senior Product Manager and interact with sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing, and our subsidiaries. You will also interact with our distributors, partners, customers and trade press and our suppliers of company products.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. Two-year college degree or equivalent with emphasis on electronics technology.
  2. Two years of experience in electronics, building automation, and/or HVAC industries.
  3. Must have excellent communication and interactive skills.
  4. Must be a well-organized, responsible individual.
  5. Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
  6. PC literacy including knowledge of Windows operating systems and networks.

Open Position: Electronics Assembler

Contemporary Controls, a privately-held high-tech engineering and systems control integration company located in Downers Grove, Illinois, is hiring a fulltime experienced (at least 1 ½ years) Electronics Assembler, Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm. Previous hand-soldering experience necessary.

Individual will perform a wide range of manufacturing operations including: through- hole assembly, hand soldering, touch up, and inspection.

Essential Roles:

  1. Perform manual electronic assembly activities to assemble, rework or reassemble units, building to specification (blueprints, schematics, process sheets, etc.)
  2. Do hand soldering and solder touchup as needed
  3. Assist with physical inventory
  4. Pick and pack inventory
  5. Follow safety rules and maintain assigned tools and work area in good order
  6. Willingness to attend classes or in-house seminars to improve skills and growth

High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to work independently and exercise personal judgment. Basic English language reading, writing and speaking ability. Proven fine motor skills are needed.

Open Position: Part-time Engineering Intern

20-30 hours per week on-site at our Downers Grove, IL facility. Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of routine technical tasks to assist engineers with electronic systems. Additionally, you will be responsible to accomplish moderately complex but repetitive testing, troubleshooting and prototype duties and set up and perform software and hardware testing of the company's products and any related products. You will interface primarily with members of the engineering group.

Essential Roles:

  1. Assist engineers with fabricating and assembling electronics subassemblies for prototype models from schematics, rough sketches, and verbal instructions.
  2. Troubleshoot electronics systems.
  3. Conduct routine engineering tests and detailed experimental testing, solving mechanical or electronic problems involved in the operation of product.
  4. Assist with general laboratory work.
  5. Set up and repair test computers. This includes assembling the computers, loading operating systems and test applications, and anything else required to test software and hardware systems.
  6. Test hardware/software products and drivers.
  7. Create/modify technical drawings.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. One to two years of related experience including technical training in electronic/electrical engineering or equivalent.
  2. Bachelor's or Associate Degree.
  3. Ability to use electronic theory and basic machine tools and to work from schematics and rough sketches.
  4. Ability to set up and use computers.

At present, all employees are required to wear a mask while not in their own work area. Contemporary Controls achieved the IMA's Healthy Manufacturer Certification for 2020 in an on-going effort to maintain a safe work environment.
