The BASpi-IO, powered by the Raspberry Pi, brings low-cost computing power to technical professionals and hobbyists alike. That was exactly what Robert DeNuzzio needed to make a drive-thru Halloween haunted house in Chicago successful.
DeNuzzio, who is a skilled controls engineer, needed a controller that featured a number of isolated digital outputs. "For our haunted house's electric chair, I needed isolated relays for handling 12 VDC, 12 VAC, 24 VDC, and 120 VAC voltages all on one device", said Bob. "The BASpi-IO gave me what I needed. I had bought it to play with it to see how it might work in our controls work and I have since suggested and used it on a few jobs."
The BASpi-IO boards are 12-point BAS expansion boards (HATs) for Raspberry Pi. The I/O board, plus the firmware files provided by Contemporary Controls turn your Raspberry Pi into a BACnet-networked, Sedona-programmable controller with six universal inputs and a choice of six relay outputs or four relay and two analog outputs depending on model.
All models offer either four or six individually isolated normally-open relay outputs suitable for 30 VAC/VDC at 2A max. For 120 VAC relay operation, the BASpi-IO can act as a pilot relay for a 120 V rated device.
