Free Video Series Helps Beginners Understand BACnet

BACnet is the most popular open protocol found in building automation and energy management systems. One of BACnet's primary appeals is its interoperability. This interoperability allows building owners to pick and choose BACnet-compliant equipment from different vendors, thus freeing them from dependence on a single vendor when the time comes for system expansion.

Contemporary Controls endorses the "open control" concept and extends this concept to information sharing and education. "I have always had a strong belief that it is important to help promote and educate the industry by sharing free educational material," said George Thomas, president of Contemporary Controls. "As part of that mission, we provide a video series to introduce BACnet to new users."

Contemporary Controls' "Understanding BACnet" video series is an eight-part video series that provides an overview intended for those who are encountering BACnet for the first time or those who simply wish to review basic BACnet concepts. The series covers the basics of BACnet, including device modeling, network types, BACnet services, interoperability, BBIBs, device profiles and compliance.

The videos are available in the Contemporary Controls video library and on YouTube.
