EISW Switches Provide Robust Performance in Demanding Environments

EISW Switch SeriesContemporary Controls' EISW series of unmanaged switches provide robust and reliable performance even in demanding environments. Available with five, eight, and sixteen ports, the EISW switches provide 10/100 Mbps performance on all ports to accommodate a range of control devices and workstations commonly found in automation projects. In addition, a wide operating temperature range of –40°C to +75°C makes them suitable for demanding outdoor applications.

The units feature dual power inputs with wide-ranging voltages (12-48 VDC or 24 VAC) and support two independent DC powering options for redundant back-up power schemes.

A fault relay monitors power for remote alarm triggering—a normally open (NO) fault relay contact held closed opens upon a P1 or P2 power failure.

The switches support plug-and-play operation and require no configuration. All ports automatically configure their data rate and duplex using auto-negotiation protocol. Depending on the capability of the link partner, communication is set at 10 or 100 Mbps and at either half- or full-duplex. Models are available with five, eight, or sixteen Auto-MDIX ports for attaching local devices. Each port has an LED that glows with an established link and flashes with activity which assists in troubleshooting connection issues. Each port on the 16-port switch also has a speed LED that glows amber for a 100 Mbps link.

These low-cost, compact units are encased in a rugged steel enclosure, with both DIN-rail and wall mounting installation. Requiring rail space widths of 30 mm, 41 mm, and 66 mm (models EISW5, EISW8, and EISW16, respectively), units can be used in control panel installations where DIN-rail space is at a premium. A metal DIN-rail clip attached to the steel enclosure can survive the toughest installation, and hardware for wall-mount option is included.

"As Ethernet continues to evolve as the network of choice for automation systems, network capacity and data transmission capabilities must evolve while also providing robust and reliable performance in demanding environments," said Joe Stasiek, sales manager at Contemporary Controls. "Our EISW series delivers these requirements in durable, compact units that are easy-to-install, operate, and maintain. In addition, the EISW5 and EISW8 models offer 1K MAC address support, and the EISW16 provides 16K MAC address and Jumbo Frame support to accommodate the requirements of next-generation networks."

The switches are UL/cUL Listed as Information and Communication Technology Equipment under safety standard UL 62368-1 and can be installed in a UL 508A panels without invalidating the control panel listing. They comply with CFR 47 Part 15 Class A. They carry the CE Mark, are UKCA compliant and comply with the Trade Agreements Act (TAA).
